My name is Jodi…and I’m addicted to learning.
Lately, podcasts or audible books are my go-to for quick learning. With the fact that these days, uncertainty is the new normal, I need as much grounding as I can get! Naturally, I’m focused on human development, psychology, neuroscience, communication, and spirituality. A book I’ve been listening and learning from is The Three Commitments: Walking the Path of Liberation by Pema Chodron. I’m learning a lot!
It’s not surprising that during Covid19 I’m noticing how pervasive the sense of uncertainty is for so many of us. So, I’m doing what I can to control what or who I can – me! Establishing daily routines of exercise and meditation is easing my fears. I’m not as afraid.
In her book, Pema explains the fundamental ambiguity of life.
The truth is that we simply do not know what’s going to happen in life. We never have. Finding a way to be comfortable with this uncertainty is of great interest to me. When I become more Zen about my life, and control what I can while letting go of that which I can’t, I can relax. When friends ask questions about what’s going to happen – I try to assuage their fears by reminding them that nothing has or ever was certain in life.
Living each moment by focusing on what actually is rather than fearing what will be is one way to calm the senses.
One podcast that’s helping me to learn and relax with uncertainty is The Happiness Lab by Dr. Laurie Santos. What can I say? I love learning and right now, if I choose wisely, what I’m learning can calm and inspire rather than cause more fear and uncertainty.
Make sure to take some time for yourself and try to remind yourself throughout the day:
In this moment, right now, I’m okay!
